Why Content is King
Content is the single most important part of your website.
Visiting a website without content is like going to a restaurant, ordering a steak, and getting the veggies, the mushrooms and onions, some garlic bread... but nothing else. It leaves you saying "Where's the beef?"
Let's take two fictitious home building companies - one has a very simple web site with their name, telephone number, maybe an email address. The other one has photos of some of the work they've done, testimonials from customers, a list of all the areas they have experience in, and a page about how they like to work and build things.
Which one would you call or email first, after looking at their website?
There can be lots of different kinds of content - a plumbing company might have the following kinds of content
- Information about the company
- Local area they serve
- Skills and experience of employees
- Recently completed work
- Customer testimonials
- Plumbing standards / building code standards
- Plumbing How-Tos, photos and videos (while this might make someone more likely to try and fix a problem themselves, on the other side of the coin it would show the do-it-yourself person that a job may too big for them)
- Contact information
No matter what kinds of content you decide to put on your website, as long as it is relevant to your business, it will help your website be the best that it can be.
Content is also very important for search engines, which we'll explore later.
